Lecture Notes

This page is for those of you with an interest in advanced card techniques (for demos and stunts) used by professional magicians — and one or two cheats looking to put the hurt on a buddy. These booklets are “lecture notes” normally sold in exclusive workshops and will require you to have a solid knowledge of card table sleights.

Along with a range of “gambling demos”, Things That Go Bump In the Night includes some anecdotes and stories about cheats drawn from Andrew’s travels and contacts, and explains a classic method of cheating with a marked deck. A small taste of what will soon be available in Thieving Bastards.

ERRATA: for the ‘Bump’ notes, there is a small error on page 39. You do not need to crimp the packet you are holding. Instead, after the shuffle on page 40, cut to the red ace with “the work” and you are set for the deal.

Down Under Deals
USD 60.00

Down Under Deals is a highly sought after collection of advanced card material that was published in the 1990s, back when Andrew worked as a card magician.

Long out of print and hitting crazy prices on the collectors market, now’s your chance to learn hard-hitting gambling demonstrations including “The Expert At The Bridge Table”, “The Return of the Ultimate Cardshark”, “The Natural” and many more.

This packed set of notes also includes an extremely deceptive peek, a devious finesse for the Elias multiple shift and the inside work on gambling demo moves such as the Greek deal and the middle deal.

The booklet features 62 professional studio photographs to guide you through the effects, and an introduction by legendary card magician Darwin Ortiz.

Things That Go Bump In The Night
USD 50.00

Things That Go Bump In The Night is a set of super high quality printed lecture notes with full color hi-res photos that feature inside advice on using a punch to mark and control cards: how to put in the work, the best place to apply/hide the work, how to detect the work with confidence, where to obtain a quality punch. Also included is a very ‘inside baseball’ method of building an indetectable body-worn punch that has been used by pro thieves.

The booklet was written for an exclusive workshop at a recent conference and also includes detailed explanations of seven effects, with variant handlings:

  • “Darwin Ortiz’s Raw Deal” (includes lots of expanded detail and presentational tips)

  • “Darwin’s Out for Raw Deal”

  • “Darwin’s Gamber’s Stop Trick”

  • “Things That Go Bump In The Night”

  • “Combination Deal” (with Hai Trung Ho)

  • “Combination Poker”

  • “The Double Tough Poker Deal”

Rounding out the booklet is a short essay featuring observations about Walter Scott, the notorious “Phantom of the Card Table”, drawn from interviews/conversations with three card cheats, Darwin Ortiz and Dai Vernon.

‘If you study this work and perform any of the tricks thoroughly explained in its pages, it will crush the minds of your audience. And if that audience includes magicians — it will crush their souls.’

- Jamy Ian Swiss

Things That Go Bump in the night is a fantastic addition to any card man’s library. This is a brilliantly written treatise about a method of cheating that few card men know anything about. Wimhurst took the time to include dozens of four-color photographs which make learning the techniques and routines so much easier. I cannot recommend this book enough.’

- James Swain

‘In a world where so few strive for excellence, it’s refreshing to read the brilliant works of my good friend Andrew Wimhurst: a true expert in the craft of cheating at cards.’
